This site will generate a custom list of bamboo options a gardener has by narrowing down the hundreds of varieties of bamboo available to a small group of choices that are most likely to meet your needs. To do this, we need to know a little about your climate and what you are looking for in a bamboo.

IMPORTANT: In some cases we attempt to list running bamboos that should not become invasive based on a climate which should inhibit their growth, and/or a large area which should be enough so that they will not escape. However, the behavior of individual plants in individual locations can vary. We can not be responsible for any results of your gardening, including invasiveness that we may or may not have predicted.

Should we include potentially invasive species in your list? Some of the most beautiful varieties of bamboo are potentially invasive and require additional measures to prevent their spread. Choose "Yes" here if you are willing to take these steps or if this is not a concerrn for you.
What is the typical low temperature in your area over a 10 year period in F°?
How much sunlight will the planting area get on a scale of 1 (full shade) to 5 (full sun)?
How many weeks of dry or salty wind does the planting area get per year? Coastal winds, cold dry winds, or hot dry winds should be considered.
How many weeks of drought does the planting area suffer per year? Answer "None" if you water the area during the dry season.
How many weeks of flood or near-flood does the planting area suffer per year? This means that there is standing water within the planting area.
How long in feet per plant is the planting area?
How wide in feet per plant is the planting area?
What is the first (most important) thing you are looking for in a bamboo? (Optional)
